*** Next Concert - Friday May 24th - Bath 'Party in the City'***

Picture
Welcome to the website of THE Bath Chorus. As you can see from our picture, we are a large mixed-voice choir based in the City of Bath. The founder conductor of the Bath Chorus is one of the West Country's leading musicians, Grenville Jones. We are an auditioned choir. If you have just moved to the area and are looking a new choir to join, then we could be the
choir for you.

You may recognise the Welsh baritone, Rhydian Roberts in the picture taken at our 2011 annual Christmas concert. This was at the Bath Forum with an audience of 1600 people. In a short space of time, THE Bath Chorus has become regarded as one of the leading choirs in the region. It has performed in Bath Abbey on a number of occasions, including a memorable concert last year with the fantastic RAF Central Band - raising £10,000 for Help for Heroes. Other performances have been with Hayley Westenra and Aled Jones

THE Bath Chorus has two up coming dates at Bath Abbey on Friday May 24th from 9pm as part of the Bath Festival Party in the City and then visits Warwickshire at the end of the month to sing two concerts as well as a recital at Coventry Cathedral on June 1st. Saturday June 8th sees the Chorus again in Bath Abbey for a charity concert celebrating the Queen’s Coronation 60 years ago. Tickets are now on sale click here.

This follows a concert early in June last year when the Chorus sang to a packed Bath Abbey, a thousand people and a very special concert to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of her Majesty the Queen. This was a collaboration between Grenville and Bath Abbey raising over £6,000 for local charities. Writing in the Bath Chronicle, Peter Lloyd Williams said;

"Grenville Jones – who else? – had arranged the programme and it had something for everyone. After a rousing Old Hundreth, RVW's majestic arrangement of Louis Bourgeois' hymn, in which we all joined, Grenville's choir, The Bath Chorus, gave us three British songs – a favourite of mine, Linden Lea, briskly performed, Bob Chilcott's setting of Danny Boy and Karl Jenkins' Cantilena. This was impressive, well balanced singing, disciplined with the dynamic contrasts sensitively observed. We then heard with three more anthems from the Bath Chorus, a beautiful rendition of Stanford's Beati Quorum Via, sung unaccompanied, with a warm depth of feeling, Parry's great My Soul there is a County and Rutter's tender The Lord Bless you and keep you.

"The concert finished in a real blaze of uninhibited glory with SING, Willcox's choral arrangement of Vidor's Toccata in F, with James Scott showing what he and the Klais organ can do. A tremendous finale from The Bath Chorus – what a fine tenor section – bursting with energy and brio which propelled us all out into the Abbey Church Yard, smiling from ear to ear."

Grenville has a choir for you!
THE Bath Chorus is a young friendly (auditioned) Monday night rehearsal choir and conductor Grenville Jones helps charities to organise concerts. He is seen above with the Duchess of Cornwall at a concert for the National Osteoporosis Society. He is of course also founder conductor of the famous City of Bath Male Choir from the Last Choir Standing series and founder of the Golden-Oldies Charity which has attracted World-wide media attention as it now brings singing and smiles to the lives of elderly people across the west of England and south Wales. He also runs a number no-audition community choirs – full details can be found on his website.

For people who want an ambitious non-auditioned mixed choir Grenville's Wednesday evening Welcome Choir could be just for you.

He also leads The Good Afternoon Choir project which has a membership of 250 singers in Bath, Devizes and Weston-super-Mare. He is Musical Director to the Norland (Nannies) College Choir and leads his own children's choir called Choirskool.

The Chorus repertoire is varied - everything from Mozart and Parry to Chilcott and Whitacre. If you join the Chorus you will enjoy your music making. Come along to a rehearsal and find out more.
