A Week With WAR HORSE
On release in the UK from January 13th the Stephen Spielberg blockbuster War Horse looks set to be a huge hit. When you go and see it there is a chance you just might spot a familiar face from THE Bath Chorus in some of the early crowd scenes. These were filmed in the village of Castle Combe back in October 2010 when the Dream Works team of technicians, hundreds of extras and about 30 horses took over the Wiltshire village.
Grenville Jones was one of the people contacted when DreamWorks team were looking to recruit extras. “ We are filming in Castle Combe and need extras. We understand that you are the best person to help us as you know lots of people through your many choirs ?” That was how it started, says Grenville. So look out for some of the men and ladies who sing in Genville's choirs in those War Horse early scenes:
Jenny McKim and Chris Beezley are just two from THE Bath Chorus. Our picture in the Castle Combe Churchyard shows all of Grenville's ladies with Mr Spielberg himself.

Pauline Shelbourn organised a concert at Minety Church, near Malmesbury with THE Bath Chorus; it raised £1,300 for Church funds. She writes...
"They say it is almost impossible to please everyone but in May, THE Bath Chorus came to Minety church and wowed the entire audience. Only a handful of the audience (squeezed into every corner of the church), had heard the chorus before. After a programme of folk songs, classics, modern musical and church pieces and (not forgetting the audience participation song) we were kept spellbound. Thanks to you Grenville and the Bath Chorus for giving us a night that will not be forgotten."

THE Bath Chorus is a young friendly (auditioned) Monday night rehearsal choir and conductor Grenville Jones is of course founder conductor of the famous City of Bath Male Choir, he is also MD of the fabulous Stockingtops an all-girl harmony group and the founder of the Golden-Oldies Charity which has attracted World-wide media attention as it brings singing and smiles to the lives of elderly people . He also leads The Good Afternoon Choir project which has a membership of 100 singers in Bath and he is Musical Director to the Norland College Choir.
Bath Chorus concert accompanist and Grenville's deputy is Francis Faux. Our rehearsal accompanist is Alfie Pugh who also works with Grenville and the fabulous Stockingtops. The Chorus repertoire is varied - everything from Mozart and Parry to Chilcott and Whitacre. If you join the Chorus you will enjoy your music making. Come along to a rehearsal and find out more.
